Devizes Health Centre – access to dental services

The proposals for the redevelopment of the town centre site, once the new Health Centre opens, are available here: https://www.devizeshospitalredevelopment.com/. There is some contradiction between statements on that site and those on the pages relating to the new Health Centre. The information on the redevelopment proposals says that all facilities on the hospital site, will move to the new centre. However, the Health Centre pages say quite clearly that Dentistry will not be available. Trying to find out where it will be available proved much harder than I expected.

Dental services at Devizes Hospital closed during the pandemic and have not reopened. So far as I can tell, there has never been a formal announcement about closure, although the Wiltshire Council pages on Special Care Dental Services for People with Additional Needs makes no mention of Devizes. The NHS pages on Dentistry in Wiltshire give different results depending on the search terms used. One page refers to a Dental Access Centre in Westbury, another refers to Salisbury. I can’t find any reference to Devizes or Chippenham Dental Access Centres. Dental services are available at the NHS Treatment Centre next to the Health Centre, although there is no mention of additional needs.

Overall, it is an absolute mess. Anyone trying to find the information needed will be sent from pillar to post. I did find out however that you can get a referral from GPs or a normal dental practice. So, if you are disabled or have other special needs, talk to your doctor or your existing dentist.
